From July 20th, to the 22nd the Medicine Hat Mavericks and Brooks Bombers played three games, in three days with the Mavericks picking up victories in all three outings.
On Friday, July 20th the Mavericks hosted the Bombers at Athletic Park in front of a great crowd of 1159 fans. Safety Nett Training Services Foremost was the sponsor of the game, and we were happy to have them at the park. Over 1000 founds got treated to a dominating performance from the home team, as the Mavericks started the series off with a bang, a 9-1 victory over the bombers. Matt Brooks was on the mound for the Mavericks, and he picked up his fourth win of the year pitching seven strong innings with seven strikeouts. Jordan Dray was the Booster Juice Player of the Game going 2-4 at the plate with four RBI.
Saturday, the 21st saw the Mavericks, and Bombers travel to Brooks as they played the second game of the series at Elks Field. Mavericks would pick up the away victory, beating the Bombers 10-5. Junior Pimentel started his first game of the season, and picked up his second win of 2018 throwing six innings for the Mavericks with six strikeouts in the game. Carson Johnson would go 3-3 in the game with three walks as well, and tallied five runs for the Mavericks.
Finally, on Sunday afternoon the Mavericks, and Bombers would finish the three game series back at Athletic Park in the Mavericks second Pack the Park game of the season, sponsored by Servus Credit Union. Servus Credit Union brought an escape room to Athletic Park, and that was a fun activity for all 1035 fans that showed up to Pack the Park. Mavericks would win again in this one, this time picking up the 16-4 win over the Bombers. Jared Libke would pitch a complete game, going all nine innings for the Mavericks with eight strikeouts. The Mavericks bats could not be contained in this one, as they put up a total of twenty hits combined. Reed Odland, and David Salgeuiro both had four hits in the game, Colton Wright, and Nolan Rattai both collected three RBI, and Carson Johnson made his way all around the bases four times.
This upcoming week is the final week of the 2018 WMBL regular season, and the Mavericks only have two more home games before playoffs.
July 24th, the Mavericks will host the Lethbridge Bulls at 7:05 pm on our very first Girl Power night at Athletic Park. The Mavericks will be wearing special pink jerseys that will be up for sale after the third inning. Proceeds from the jerseys go towards the Canadian Cancer Foundation for Breast Cancer. Our Girl Power night is sponsored by the Medicine Hat Mall
Lastly, the Mavericks will host the Edmonton Prospects for a double header on July 25th, the final night of the regular season at Athletic Park. The Mavs, and Prospects will play one game starting at 5 pm, this game will be completed from being rained out in Edmonton last week. After the rain out game the Mavericks, and Prospects will play their regular scheduled game at 7:05 pm, and this game will be brought to you by local restaurant and pub, Industry Pub.
