The Mavericks are now entering the last week of the 2018 regular season, and we officially have no more home games left until playoffs. The Mavericks are currently 36-7, and have five games left in the season, all on the road. The Mavericks finished their home schedule earlier this week when the Mavericks played the Lethbridge Bulls, and the Edmonton Prospects winning three games in two days.
On July 24th, the Lethbridge Bulls came to Medicine Hat to take on the Mavs, and the Mavericks would win one of the closest games of the season, 4-2. Tuesday's game was the Mavericks first ever Girl Power night where the Mavericks wore special pink jerseys that went on sale in support of the Canadian Cancer Foundation for Breast Cancer. Lot's of fans turned up to support Girl Power, as Athletic Park hosted 1725 fans to watch the Mavs take on the Bulls which was a game sponsored by the Medicine Hat Mall. Jumpei Akanuma was on the mound, and got the win for the Mavericks pitching eight innings only giving two runs, on six hits.
July 25th held a double header at Athletic Park between the Medicine Hat Mavericks, and Edmonton Prospects. The Mavericks, and Prospects got rained out in Edmonton on July 19th, so the two teams had to pick up where they left off in the fifth inning with the Mavericks leading 3-1. The Mavericks would hold on to the 3-1 lead, and win the game 9-4 in the first game of the double header. Later that evening the Mavericks took on the Prospects again for their regular scheduled game sponsored by Industry Pub. This game would be the Mavericks final home game of the regular season, and for the 1200 fans that came out to support, they sure got their monies worth. The Mavericks won the game 6-1 improving to 21 wins, and 3 losses at home this season. David Vilches had a three run homerun in the 2nd inning, and that homerun would be followed by Colton Wright, hitting his 7th homerun of the year, a two run shot in the 7th inning. These two homeruns would provide all the offence they would need to send the fans home happy one last time.
Mavericks still have five games left this season, and they are all on the road. The Mavericks will play three games in two days in Okotoks on July 26-27, and then they will travel to Lethbridge to take on the Bulls on Saturday, and finish the season on Sunday taking on the Brooks Bombers at Elks Field.
The Medicine Hat Mavericks next home game will be the first game of the playoffs on July 31st. The Mavericks will play on back to back nights, on both July 31st, and August 1st. The team that The Mavericks will be playing is still to be announced. Come out and cheer on The Mavs, as they look for their first championship since 2014.
