Mavericks Win Dramatic Series

Mavericks win Dramatic Series.

Perhaps it was only fitting Sunday afternoon at Athletic Park that the Mavericks final game went all the way till the last at-bat.

After a tough bounce that brought a runner home to make it a 13-12 game, Jon Guardado and Nolan Rattai were able to stay composed and secure the series win after a groundout ball was turned into a 4-3 out that secured the series for the red and white.

Austin Sojka was on another level yesterday going 5 for 6 at the plate with the cherry on top being a 3 run HR late in the fifth inning that proved crucial in the win.

The Edmonton Prospects also showed great composure taking game two on the day before by a lopsided score of 11-3. The bats were on fire for the Prospects including a rare grand slam from Edgar Harrel halfway through Saturday's matchup.

Friday’s game in case you hadn’t heard already, was a sixteen inning battle that saw the Mavericks use 6 pitchers and play all the way till midnight! Jon Velasco played hero hitting an RBI single in the bottom of the sixteenth to bring home Nolan Rattai.

The Mavericks will now shift there focus and look to build off of this weekends success as they head into Regina tonight to begin a 3 game series.

Freddie Walker and Russell Strilchuk we’re both injured on the weekend and both are listed as day to day. Neither outfielders are suspected to miss a significant amount of time.
