The expectations heading into the weekend for the Mavericks were to sweep this series and get themselves back in a more comfortable spot in the Western Division standings. With back to back big wins and having to battle back in game two being down, the Mavericks are beginning to play and look more like a team that can compete against the leagues best each and every night.
One thing this series that has been constant is the bats for the Mavericks. Austin Sojka crushed a ball in game one that would leave the park for the California natives first grand slam!
In game two, newcomer Taylor Wright (no relation to Colton Wright) also left the park to get his first home run as a maverick. The University of Maryland product also showed some great footwork and poise at the third base spot.
Wright wasn’t the only acquisition that was making his Mavericks debut on Saturday. The highly regarded shortstop PJ Garcia also dressed in game one as well as Outfielder Tito Jones. With the coaching staff putting an emphasis on adding speed, the latest additions appear to fit that bill and will all be relied on heavily.
The series with Yorkton wraps up tonight where the red and white will be looking to sweep the Cardinals and continue their playoff push!
Opening pitch for game 3 is set to go at 7:05 pm. Tickets are available at the front office!
