There is no disputing that the Mavericks have pushed back and earned every bit of the recent success these last few weeks. Despite the upwards trend, the red and white are refusing to sit back and relax even with a marvelous 9-1 record in their last 10 games.
The Mavericks completed the series sweep against the Brooks Bombers on Sunday evening and in doing so, moved into a tie with the Lethbridge Bulls for second place. It is worth noting that every regular for the Mavericks recorded at least 2 hits in the series. Colton Wright recorded his first grand slam of the season as well in a 14-0 thrashing in game two.
For bench-boss Tom Vessella, the coaching staff is happy with the turnaround but at the same time even more focused.
"The staff is thrilled with how we have been playing lately, but the team is fully aware that we still have a long way to go. We have a difficult schedule coming up and with such a tight divisional race every game we play counts. It's an exciting time and we can't wait to get back at it tomorrow.”
Perhaps by coincidence or the work of the almighty baseball gods, the now second place Mavericks will face the first place Okotoks dawgs on Tuesday.
Liam Rosebeck (R/R), a pitcher from Vail, Arizona was acquired on Sunday as well and will look to shore up the bullpen as the sand in the deadline hourglass continues to pour out.
The squad returns home Thursday to finish the upcoming series with Okotoks.
