One would think that the Mavericks previous 16 inning game record was probably pretty safe. However, that wasn’t the case as last night’s game 3 with the Okotoks Dawgs required 17 innings to be played before a winner could be crowned.
While the Mavericks were on the losing side of a marathon game this time around, there were lots of positives to take from the series against the west divisions very best.
Colton Wright was 4/9 on the evening keeping the Mavericks alive, the Surrey BC product has really turned things around and is starting to get back to last years level of production at the plate. It’s also worth noting Wright caught the entire game and despite taking a beating, there was never any quit.
Both teams used an abundance of pitchers throughout the series with the Mavericks going through 6 in just one game last night.
PJ Garcia and Nolan Rattai were also crucial in giving the red and white a chance to win the series, from turning double plays to having good at-bats the veterans showed well.
Hunter Cooper (Anaheim California) was credited with the loss but showed great resilience coming after leaving the game the night before with an injury off of being struck by a pitch.
While the battle was lost, the war has just begun. The Wild West standings continue to change by what seems like minute to minute with Lethbridge, Fort Mac, Medicine Hat and Edmonton all within a few games of each other. There is no time to let up and for the now 20-20 Mavericks, they must shift their focus to tonight’s game versus Moose Jaw.
Tickets are available at the office and a friendly reminder tomorrow night’s game versus Moose Jaw is Superhero Night.
