Kyle Swannack has been a coach with the Medicine Hat Mavericks since 2014. We took some time to ask Kyle about his past coaching history, and a few questions about the upcoming season.
Dawson: How long have you been coaching baseball, and how long with the Medicine Hat Mavericks?
Kyle: I started coaching when I was done playing baseball in 2013, so I have been coaching since 2014. I started coaching with the Mavericks in 2014, it was my first coaching job.
Dawson: What has been your biggest coaching highlight of your career so far?
Kyle: My biggest highlight would be winning the WMLB title in my first season while coaching with the Mavericks. That was a magical run, and a magical season to kick off my coaching career, and I loved it.
Dawson: What are some of the biggest strengths to the Mavericks roster this year?
Kyle: We have quite a few returners back this year. Last year we were quite young, and this year we have quite a few more seniors. We have a very good pitching staff this year, and some very interesting position players so it is going to be fun to watch.
Dawson: What are your goals for the season this year?
Kyle: The goal is to get the guys to mesh, and connect right away. That is why we have our mini camp early, we do three days of mini camp. Our biggest goal is to win the ring at the end of the year. I have lots of guys telling me they want to win it all this year. I just want this guys to compete, and have some fun, and put it all out on the field.
Dawson: What can you tell Mavericks fans about some of the returning players?
Kyle: Louie Canjura, our second basemen will be back, as well as Nolan Rattai who is a local guy he will be back after taking last year off. Colton Wright will be coming back, so there will be many familiar faces. As well as Jared Libke for his last summer pitching in a Mavericks uniform.
Dawson: What can you tell fans about some of the local boys Nolan Rattai and Nathan Stark?
Kyle: Nolan Rattai is a great kid who is a hard worker, and he can hit all the time. This will be my first summer working with him, but from watching him in 2016 I will be excited to see what he can do. Nathan Stark got some good innings under his belt this year at college, and I think he will be a key guy out of the bullpen making some spot starts here and there.
Don't forget fans to come out on May 29th from 5-7 PM for our annual Fan Fest where you can enjoy live music, play games, and meet the Mavericks.
