Day two of the Medicine Hat Mavericks mini camp is in the books, and the team is looking sharp, and ready for action. The boys have one more day of camp before they kick off the 2018 regular season against the Brooks Bombers. Former assistant coach, and first year Mavericks head coach Andrew Murphy answered a few questions about his initial thoughts on how camp is shaping up.
Dawson: How is mini camp this year going so far?
Andrew: So far it is going really well. On day one I could tell that the guys are extremely excited to be here. Today the guys were really bouncing around, and are handling the ball extremely well. I think everyone looks really pumped up, and ready to go.
Dawson: Are there any noticeable improvements in the team since day one?
Andrew: Absolutely, you can tell right away that since day one the guys have really taken that next step in getting to know one another, and are feeling a lot more comfortable in talking to each other. That would definitely be the biggest difference I've noticed for me.
Dawson: Compared to last seasons team, is there anything that excites you early on about the 2018 team?
Andrew: Yes, right off the bat I can tell just with the way the guys are carrying themselves, that we are more experienced than last year. I think we have a very good mix of older guys, and younger guys. I think we have five graduating seniors, and 3 freshman so a really good mix of old and young. I think the main difference is just from observing from the mound, that the guys know what they are doing more, and are quite a lot more experienced and comfortable.
Our season kicks off on May 31st at Athletic Park against the Brooks Bombers at 7:05 PM! Make sure to get your tickets, and come cheer on your 2018 Medicine Hat Mavericks.
