After twenty nine games, The Medicine Hat Mavericks are still sitting comfortably in first place with a 24-5 record. The Mavericks sit four games ahead of the 21-10 Okotoks Dawgs. The magic number for the Mavericks to clinch a playoff spot is down to only three games now! This means for the Mavericks to reach the playoffs, they need a combination of either three wins, or for the Brooks Bombers, and Fort McMurray Giants to lose three more times.

Earlier this week the Mavericks finished off a seven game home stand against the Swift Current 57's, and Okotoks Dawgs. The Mavericks went 5-2 during the seven game home stand from July 1-9.

July 8th saw the Swfit Current 57's come to Medicine Hat for the second time in one week. Swift Current would be looking for redemption against the Mavericks, as the Mavericks started the home stand against the 57's picking up the win 4-3 in extra innings. Mavericks would prove victorious again on Sunday 14-5. Matt Brooks would pick up the win for the Mavericks on Sunday, his second win of the year pitching 5.0 innings giving up five runs, and striking out seven 57's batters. David Salgueiro had a hot bat in the game going 4-5 at the plate with 2 RBI, and a triple. A couple more big bats in the game were Zack Gray, and Sal Rodriguez who both had three hits, and Colton Wright, with 4 RBI going 2-6 in the big 14-5 win.

On Monday July 9th the 2nd place Okotoks Dawgs came to Athletic Park looking for a big win against the Mavericks. This game was tight from the very start right to the end. The Mavericks would take a 2-1 lead into the 8th inning after getting runs in both the 4th, and 5th innings. In the 8th inning the Dawgs would take a commanding lead bringing around five runs, taking the lead 6-2. Medicine Hat would fight back in the bottom of the 8th, and 9th innings rallying three more runs total, which would not be enough as the game would finish with the Dawgs coming out victorious 6-5. Jared Libke got the start for the Mavericks throwing 6.2 strong innings. Libke only gave up one run on three Dawgs hits. Julien Ly pitched in relief only going 0.2 innings giving up four runs on four hits picking up the loss. Carson Johnson, and Louie Canjura lead the offence for the Mavericks with 3 hits each in the game.

The Mavericks were supposed to play last night, July 10th in Regina but the game got rained out so the two teams will be playing a double header tonight. First pitch for the first game tonight will be at 6 pm. Both games will be 7 innings long.

The Mavericks have a four game series this weekend from Friday July 13th, to Sunday July 15th against the Fort McMurray Giants at Athletic Park. The Mavericks play a double header on Saturday July 14th, with one game at 3 pm, and the other at regular time 7:05 pm.

The Mavericks are also hosting the 3rd annual Battle of The Badges game between the Medicine Hat Fire Department, and Medicine Hat Police Service at 12 pm on Sunday July 15th, before the final game between the Mavericks and Giants at 2:05 pm. Tickets for the Battle of The Badges are $10 with all proceeds going to the Medicine Hat Food Bank. These tickets will also act as a bleacher seat ticket for the Mavericks game.
