MEDICINE HAT MAVERICKS RE-SIGN ALL 2009 MIDDLE POSITIONS

PLAY BALL!!


The Mavericks are pleased to announce the signing of some key players from the 2009 season. Elliot Burrow (C, Western Texas A & M), Jason Hague (CF, Lewis & Clark State), Jeff Hughes (SS, Modesto), and Jamie Ayala (2B, William Penn University) have all committed to return to the Mavericks for the 2010 season.

“It has been great to have these key players from last season return for another summer. Strength up the middle was what secured our late run into the playoffs last year and to have these guys return to us after another season at their respective programs should prove to be exciting.”

These (4) four signings round out the roster to (8) eight for the 2010 season.

Geoff Burke (RHP, University of BC)
Brian Greene (RHP, Montreat, NC)
John MacNeil (3B, William Penn U, IA)






Chavez Gets Professional Break

Alex Chavez came to Medicine Hat with few expectations other than wanting to play baseball. The California product, (Los Angeles) would not have thought that he would have to travel so far north to get an opportunity at professional baseball.

This upcoming spring he will be invited to spring training for the Edmonton Capitals (Golden League of Professional Baseball) in Arizona. It will be his first step in becoming a professional baseball player in hopes to play Major League Baseball.

“I knew Alex had pro tools the first time I saw him play but then he kept getting better and better the more games we played. Hopefully he gets an opportunity to make the Edmonton team. There are several ex-Major Leaguers there so he will have a great chance to continue to learn and develop from some experienced players”.

If Chavez signs a pro contract he will be the second player to sign professionally from the 2009 Mavericks roster. Mitch Graham (IF, Perth, Australia) signed with Edmonton in late June and played in 37 games for the independent league team.





The Mavericks will have flex packs and Maverick apparel (Hats & Hoodies) on sale until December 24th for those that want gift ideas. Prices will remain at the 2009 season price of $120 for general flex packs and $100 for senior/ student flex packs. The packs include 23 undated tickets that can be used individually or shared.
