Maverick Smash

While the Mavericks and the Incredible Hulk generally have nothing in common, perhaps that could have been argued Friday night. 

The infamous “Hulk-Smash” became Maverick-Smash as the Mavericks smashed the Melville Millionaires in game one of the best of three series 21 to 0. 

Although the scoreboard tells a different story, Owen Steele pitched eight innings throwing for 8 strikeouts providing quick innings not giving Melville a chance to get going. Nolan Rattai (not a typo) came in to close the game out for the red and white throwing one strikeout in the final inning.

While the Millionaires were unable to make the needed adjustments batting, the same followed for their defence as well. The Mavericks began the game scoring 6 runs in the opening inning and never looked back. 

Consistent offence from Colin Klingensmith and Austin Sojka continued as both players are now batting well over .330 on the campaign. 

Girl Power Night also drew a respectable 700  fans on the perfect weather night. The Mavericks promotions department have done a real nice job this summer creating impactful yet also fun events that have recognized important groups in the community. 

The Mavericks aren’t done with Melville yet, game two goes today followed by game 3 tomorrow afternoon. Tickets are available at the front office.
